Position Summary

The Global Health Research Technician works in the development of low-cost healthcare technologies designed by Rice 360. Together with the Director of Technology Development and the Rice 360 team this individual will assist in developing and implementing new technologies and the training programs for the devices created. This individual will interact extensively with clinicians for the implementation and improvement of their designs.

Education Required Bachelor's Degree

An engineering or the physical sciences field with a focus on technology development.

Substitution for Education Requirement

Experience may not be substituted for the education requirement.

Education Preferred

Bachelor’s degree in bioengineering/biomedical engineering.

Experience Required 2 years

- ­Experience developing biomedical engineering technologies.
- ­Healthcare related experience (experience gained during education or internship is acceptable).

Substitution for Experience Requirement

May substitute additional related education, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis in lieu of the experience requirement.

Experience Preferred

Experience working in low­-resource settings or with nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) preferred.

Skills Required

- Capable of making technical evaluations of healthcare technologies for low-resource settings.
- Working knowledge of healthcare delivery and clinical trials in low-resource settings.
- Strong interpersonal skills and oral/written communication skills to interface with people from different backgrounds and areas of expertise.
- Must be a team player and maintain good relationships with Rice community and external stakeholders.
- Ability to multitask, work autonomously and use good judgment to complete tasks in a timely manner.

Internal interaction with Rice students, staff, faculty, Director of Technology Development and interns.

External contacts may include clinicians, researchers/educators in the US and the developing world, non-­Rice students and interns.
