Position Summary

The Houston Education Research Consortium (HERC) is a research-practice partnership between Rice University and several Houston-area school districts. HERC aims to improve the connection between education research and decision-making, with the ultimate goal of closing socioeconomic gaps in educational achievement and attainment in Houston.

The HERC Coordinator provides general support by serving as the primary contact for HERC. He/she will greet visitors and field phone calls and email inquiries. The coordinator will assist the HERC Administrator and the Program Administrator with various projects as needed, including event and meeting planning and preparation. The HERC Coordinator will also directly assist the Director by managing her calendar, setting appointments, making travel arrangements, and may occasionally assist with some class-related tasks. When available, the Coordinator may also assist the research staff as needed and is expected to attend weekly staff meetings. The selected candidate will serve as a representative of HERC.

Bachelor’s degree in education, social science, or related field.

Experience working as an administrative assistant. Past experience working with faculty is helpful.

- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.

Skills Preferred

Experience using Canvas.

Internal / External Contacts

Internally, the chosen candidate will have regular contact with university administrators, faculty, staff, and students.

Externally, the coordinator may communicate with individuals from various school districts in addition to guest speakers, external stake-holders, and vendors.

Physical Demands

Must be able to move around campus. May work at a computer terminal for extended periods of time.

Working Conditions

Occasional evenings or weekends.
