Position Summary

The Painter will do general painting of all interiors and exteriors of buildings, classrooms and offices on the University campus for aesthetic and corrosion protection of painted services.

1. Wood work matching and staining.
2. Must have knowledge of and proper use of oil base paints, latex paints and sealers and lacquers.
3. Must have knowledge of drywall installation and repair.

License/Certification Required

Must possess (or have the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire) and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license with no more than three moving violations and/or at fault accidents within the past 36 months, and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) within the past five years.

License/Certification Preferred

None.

Skills Required

Must have the basic knowledge to speak and read English.

1. Basic computer skills.
2. Ability to use paint brushes, rollers, spray guns, stripping machine, ladders, scaffold and vehicle for transporting materials.

Physical Demands

Moderate to heavy physical activity which includes the ability to lift and carry objects up to 50lbs, lift up to 80 lbs, bend, stoop, climb, balance stand, and walk up to 8 hours per day.

Working Conditions

Work Environment: Indoor and outdoor work environment includes exposure to noise and all temperature, weather, and environmental conditions and extremes. Work Hazards include work at heights on ladders, scaffolds, lifts, roofs, etc; work with pneumatic and electric power tools such as saws jackhammers, compressed air, pressure washers; exposure to chemicals, solvents, dust, low voltage electricity, and magnetic fields. Work Schedule: Overtime work or other work outside regular schedule as needed. This position is considered essential during a campus emergency. The incumbent in this position is expected to report to campus, provide the essential services designated and work under the overall direction of the Crisis Management Team for the duration of a campus emergency.
