Position Summary

The Safety Specialist will monitor, manage and inspect the 70 plus fire protection and suppression systems in Rice University facilities. The primary focus of this position will be in residential housing. S/he will also conduct facility inspections for life safety and laboratory safety compliance. This position is the Emergency Responder for Fire Safety, Chemical Safety and Biological Safety and responds to inquiries from staff, faculty, and students regarding environmental safety and health concerns.

Physical Demands

Must be able to work in industrial environments. Must have the ability to climb ladders, work in tight spaces, and work in unconditioned spaces. Must be able to be fit tested and wear a respirator.

Working Conditions

Some after hours and weekend work is required. On call status 24/7. Will be working around chemicals, radioactive, and bio-hazardous materials.
