Position Summary

The Director of Recruiting leads the school’s recruiting efforts and manages recruitment activities within the Recruiting and Admissions office. The Director of Recruiting determines the strategic direction and objectives of the recruiting department, which in turn supports the school’s growth while simultaneously maintaining its culture and quality standards.

The director leads the development and implementation of strategic talent acquisition tactics and leads the evaluation of the entire recruiting function, strategies, and procedures in order to find opportunities for improvement. This position oversees full cycle recruitment in support of all MBA programs. S/he explores and implements practices that allow the school to attract top talent to the Rice MBA family.

The director also focuses on the integration of diversity and inclusion efforts as it relates specifically to recruiting top diversity candidates for the MBA program. This position ensures that our diversity efforts are assessed and in line to help the Jones School achieve national stature and be competitive with top 10 MBA schools in the country. Must be able to work with the Director of Diversity & Inclusion to ensure that recruiting efforts are in-line and complementary of D&I efforts.

Critical to achieving excellent results is the ability of the director to build strong relationships and deliver results in a rapidly and constantly evolving environment. The director must be able to establish and maintain a strong rapport with current and previous Jones School students, administration, faculty and corporate recruiters to promote the ideals of the school. This position ensures that all recruiting goals, set by the Executive Director and Deans of the school, are met.

Previous university admissions office or administrative student personnel experience is highly desirable. Previous experience in a fast-paced, high-functioning organization in the lead sales/recruiting role is also highly desirable.

License/Certification Required

Must possess (or have the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire) and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license with no more than three moving violations and/or at fault accidents within the past 36 months, and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) within the past five years.

Physical Demands

Able to move independently throughout the building, across campus and at external events (both national and international).
Able to lift 20 lbs.

Working Conditions

- Office environment.
- Extensive domestic and international travel is required throughout the year (majority of travel occurs from August – November) to visit MBA forums, host receptions and recruit and interview potential applicants from outside of the Houston area. – Overall, travel will occur approximately 25% of the time, but from August – November it is approximately 80%.
- Some evening and weekend hours are required. There are multiple evening and weekend events throughout the recruiting year.

- Work directly with internal stakeholders at the Jones School.
- Work with the Director of Admissions and Assistant Director of Enrollment Management to support the Executive Director, Recruiting and Admissions.
- Work with groups outside of the Recruiting and Admissions office including Alumni Affairs, External Relations, Career Development Office and Student Programs Office to ensure that recruiting strategies are in line with service offerings.

- Lead all recruiting efforts across all MBA programs. Responsible for creation of recruiting strategy and events. Manage events and driving attendance. The front-facing voice of the program at events to sell Rice Business.
- Responsible for driving full-cycle recruiting processes – from prospect to submission to yield.
- Continuously evaluate the department’s workload/events/interest in order to guarantee optimal recruitment activity.

- Lead efforts for tracking analytics and impact metrics in order to grow a data-driven and technically skilled recruiting team.
- Evaluate and introduce alternative strategies, (i.e., technology, social media). S/he also evaluates recruiting strategies/tactics in order to continually improve recruiting processes and hence the quality of talent brought into the school.
- Responsible for identifying potential targets or anomalies in the recruiting strategy and presenting them to the Executive Director ahead of time so that recruiting plans can be altered or added to accommodate any lags in enrollment numbers.
