Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, Rice Annual Fund – Class Management, the Assistant Director is part of the Class Management program and is responsible for increasing volunteer participation, increasing total dollars raised, and increasing donor participation in the Rice Annual Fund. The Assistant Director will develop a strategy and manage the fundraising efforts for a portfolio of classes that will work through a five year reunion cycle and Annual Fund giving programs for a specific constituent group.

Experience Preferred

- Two years of professional fundraising and/or volunteer management experience.
- Two years of Annual Fund experience, preferably in an institution of higher education.
- Experience in a class giving program or other volunteer-based program.
- Experience with face-to-face solicitations.

License/Certification Required

Valid Texas Driver’s License (or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment) required with no more than three moving violations within the past 36 months and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) within the past five years.

License/Certification Preferred
Skills Required

Must have good computer skills, preferably using PC compatible equipment in a Windows environment. Must be familiar with word processing and spreadsheet use.

Strategic thinker, analytical and process oriented; innovative and shows initiative; confident educator and trainer; desire to help grow a strong program into an even stronger one; strong management skills; knowledge of fundraising database software concepts and experience in manipulating database information.

Internal / External Contacts

INTERNAL: Extensive contact within the university at all levels, especially upper-level administration. Contact will be in person, in writing, e-mail and by telephone.

EXTERNAL: Extensive contact outside the university with parents, alumni, and friends of Rice. Contact will be in person, by phone, and in writing. It is important that the Assistant Director have the ability to direct volunteers, students, and deans in an organized way to carry out the multitude of background details essential in an annual gifts campaign. Students and deans must be motivated, used effectively, and made to feel that they are participating in a well-run program directly benefiting the university.

10% out-of-town travel. Some weekend and evening work hours are required.

Description of Job Duty

- Develop a strategic plan, execute, manage and monitor the fundraising efforts for a portfolio of classes that will work through a five year reunion cycle.
- Set class goals for assigned classes, including participation rates and dollar goals.
- Identify, recruit, train and manage class volunteers.
- Provide information and assistance to volunteers to support their ability to proceed with recruitment, solicitations and other assignments.
- Follow up with volunteers to ensure completion of assigned responsibilities.
- Steward volunteer efforts through regular contact, personal communication and recognition.
- Maintain timelines and provide updates on progress to the AF team.

Description of Job Duty

- Work in close coordination with alumni relations, annual fund and major gift colleagues, and volunteers to develop a portfolio of key volunteers and leadership prospects ($2,500+) within assigned class and program areas.
- Obtain Annual Fund gifts from identified prospects by developing and executing solicitation strategies including cultivating, visiting, soliciting and stewarding the gifts.
- Monitor the strategy and make required modifications designed to achieve the participation and dollar objectives for individual assignments.

Description of Job Duty

- Manage an Annual Fund giving program for a specific constituent group.
- Develop, execute, and monitor a strategy, coordinate with colleagues outside of the Annual Fund and coordinate and/or supervise Annual Fund team members to execute program.
- Recruit, train and manage volunteers associated with the program.
- Monitor and analyze data to assess the program’s performance and adjust strategy as required.
