Position Summary

Working with the Associate Director of Corporate Relations and Assistant Vice President, Corporate and Foundation Relations, the Assistant Director of Corporate Relations will assist with the ongoing development and implementation of the holistic Presidential Partner program, integrating offerings (financial; recruiting; and campus engagement opportunities) across the university. The assistant director will help to advance a comprehensive account management model, involving key stakeholders across campus including: (1) managing a portfolio of corporations, (2) preparing and submitting reports and (3) following (and in some cases helping to develop) internal procedures for managing the documents and work flow specific to Rice’s holistic approach. The Assistant Director will also help to integrate these efforts with the Office of Research.

Skills Required

- Good general computing skills in a Windows environment;

- Strong time management and organizational abilities to work in a busy environment with deadlines;
- Energetic, self-motivated, curious, and able to work with minimal supervision;
- The ability to use discretion in dealing with confidential information.

Skills Preferred

Knowledge of fundraising database software.

Internal / External Contacts

INTERNAL: Extensive contact within the university with faculty, deans, and administrators, including the president, provost and vice provost for research. Additional internal contacts include school-based officers and Center for Career Development staff members. Contact will be in person, in writing, and by telephone.

EXTERNAL: Extensive contact with corporate personnel and alumni at corporations; some contact with executives having authority to make gifts to the university. Frequent contact in person, with follow-up by phone or in writing. Will have contact with volunteers at the highest level of the university, including members of the Board of Trustees.

Physical Demands

Working Conditions

- Will be required to attend after-hours functions;
- Will be required to occasionally travel (<10%).

Follows the prescribed strategy to build relationships with individuals, including Rice alumni, within targeted companies and engages them to serve as liaisons between Rice and the leadership of these corporations:
- spends approximately half this time with internal constituents, examining existing relationships and considering offerings, and focusing on developing holistic corporate relationships encompassing research, recruiting, sponsorships and other opportunities.

Contributes to the development of comprehensive account management plans focused on cultivation, solicitation and stewardship for corporate prospects:
- conducts research and analysis to identify potential corporate partners and determine appropriate contacts within companies.
- maintains an awareness of the philanthropic and research support needs of the university that could be met through corporate commitments.
- develops and maintains effective and productive relationships with departments and faculty whose interests match well with interests of targeted companies. Maintains relationships with school-based development officers.
- facilitates university-wide communication about corporate relations and encourages coordination of corporate relations activities through a variety of vehicles including department website, corporate portal website and university-wide corporate council.
- tracks the progress of relationships by creating and maintaining accurate records in the advancement system.
- produces written communication including pre-meeting briefings, call reports, letters of recognition, annual reports and annual endowment reports.
– assists with the preparation of concept papers, letters of inquiry and proposals.
