Position Description

The Department of English at Rice University in Houston, Texas invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor position in either Asian-American literature and culture or U.S. Latina/o/x literature and culture. We welcome applicants working in all sub-fields, periods, and critical approaches, particularly those addressing issues related to race and ethnicity through a multidisciplinary lens. We are interested in candidates who will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education through their research, teaching, and service.

Applicants should be prepared to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their area(s) of specialization. The department’s course load is 2:2. Interviews will be conducted at the Modern Language Association annual meeting in New York City, January 4-7, 2018.

Applications including a (1) cover letter, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) dissertation or book abstract, (4) writing sample (max. 25 pages), (5) statement of teaching philosophy, and three letters of recommendation are due by November 1, 2017.
