Position Summary

The Research Technician II will support a new $5 million orthopedic cancer research project with the Rice Computational Neuromechanics Lab within the Department of Mechanical Engineering in collaboration with MD Anderson Cancer Center and the UT Health Department of Orthopedic Surgery.

Responsibilities include: assisting with select project-related engineering tasks, such as image processing of CT and MR data to support the creation of patient-specific geometric bone and muscle models. (Training can be provided.)

This position is responsible for project administration including maintaining RCNL computer hardware and software, writing project progress reports, obtaining and maintaining human subjects approvals, managing the project budget, project travel, and all other required tasks.

The project is funded for five years.

The successful candidate will be required to complete training courses in Laboratory Safety and Protecting Human Research Participants, as well as training specific to Rice financial management systems.

The successful candidate will be required to learn all policies and procedures related to the administration of the project as requested by the funding agency.

- Works regularly with faculty, staff, graduate students and undergraduate lab assistants.
- Works frequently with personnel at other research institutions to coordinate research activities and technical reports related to the project.

Physical Demands

Should be able to lift up to 25 pounds (moving related equipment). Must be able to work at a computer for extended periods of time.

Working Conditions

May require weekend/evening work and extended hours to meet required deadlines. May require travel.

- With an in-depth knowledge of the funding agency’s policies and procedures, manages all financial and administrative tasks required for the administration of the project including:
• Monitoring project budget
• Tracking and reallocating purchasing card charges
