Position Summary

The Plumber II will perform skilled work involving installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing facilities, including, but not limited to, the following systems: domestic water, heating/cooling water, steam, pneumatic, and storm and waste water systems.

Plumbing apprenticeship or other related technical training.

Experience in the plumbing trade, with experience in pipe-fitting, preferably in an industrial, commercial or institutional environment.

More than four years of experience in plumbing maintenance.

License/Certification Required

Texas Tradesman/Journeyman Plumbing License.

Valid Texas Driver’s License (or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment) required with no more than three moving violations within the past 36 months and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) within the past five years.

License/Certification Preferred

Certification for backflow preventers.

Skills Required

Knowledge of safe work practices and tool handling.

Skills Preferred

- Knowledgeable of plumbing codes.
- Ability to read schematic and piping diagrams and troubleshoot.
- Ability to work safely in challenging environments.

Frequent contact with the campus community.

Occasional contact with contractors.

Physical Demands

- May be required to perform work in crawl spaces under buildings, between floors, in attics, and at tall elevations.

- Position requires moderate to heavy physical activity and incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.

- Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, stand and/or walk for extended periods of time, up to eight hours.

Working Conditions

This position is considered essential during a campus emergency. The incumbent in this position is expected to report to campus, provide the essential services designated and work under the overall direction of the Crisis Management Team for the duration of a campus emergency. This may include working in flood or storm conditions to repair or restore damaged facilities and distribution systems.

Will spend approximately 10% of time in the course of a year performing stand-by or call-out work on a rotating schedule for emergency repairs after hours and on weekends.

Work may be done in utility tunnels which are extremely hot and can be hazardous.

Some assigned areas and duties may require exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, cold, rain, etc.

Exposure to hazards such as rotating machinery, sumps and electrical gear.
