Position Summary

Reporting to and under the supervision of the Director of Curriculum and Fellowships, the Assistant Director will support staff in the development, implementation, and management of experiential civic leadership programs focused on a geographical area and directly relevant to the Certificate in Civic Leadership. This work will be completed as part of a cross-geographic and/or cross-program team of other CCL staff colleagues. S/he will assist in the cultivation and management of university-community partnerships, faculty partnerships, and alumni networks that enrich civic leadership programs. The Assistant Director may develop and lead workshops and/or organize special events. S/he may also have the opportunity to serve as the CCL undergraduate advisor.

- Building direct partnerships with government and community organizations and/or faculty.
- Advising students.

License/Certification Required

Must possess (or have the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire) and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license with no more than three moving violations and/or at fault accidents within the past 36 months, and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) within the past five years.

- Excellent skills in advising students, collaborating, communicating with diverse audiences, and managing projects.
- Demonstrated ability to develop relationships with internal and external partners. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Must be able to demonstrate professionalism at all times.
- Must be creative, service oriented and organized.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team, both as a team member and in a leadership capacity.
- Must be able to work in a self-directed, autonomous manner.

Skills Preferred

Knowledge of civic leadership approaches.

Working Conditions

- Occasionally required to attend events outside of normal business hours.
- May spend up to 20% of time off-campus for meetings and conferences.
- International travel may be required.
- Must be able to travel unaccompanied.

- Under the supervision of the Director of Curriculum and Fellowships, support development, implementation, and management of experiential civic leadership programs focused on a specific geographic region and directly relevant to the Certificate in Civic Leadership. Collaborate within and across geographic teams to:
—develop and refine the CCL’s approach to undergraduate civic leadership education.
—develop, refine, and implement coherent civic leadership programming grounded in mutually beneficial university-community partnerships.
—determine appropriate workflow and accountability for programs.

- Assist in the administration and execution of civic leadership programs, including marketing, recruitment, and selection of students; advising and coaching of graduate and undergraduate assistants; communicating with internal and external partners; and planning of special events.
