Position Summary

The Director of Business Development for position is an Executive Education client development role with responsibility for sourcing and cultivating corporate relationships with potential custom executive development revenue opportunities. The position also works closely with the larger marketing and communication and client management teams to ensure ongoing robust registrations for the Rice Business Executive Education open enrollment portfolio of courses. The candidate will work to formulate and strengthen new client relationships through consultative discussions and interactions with corporate executives.

The role reports to the Executive Director of Executive Education. Success in the role requires strategic thinking, creativity, outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, and a record of quickly building credibility and trust with potential clients. An individual that thrives in a setting that rewards growth, values teamwork, and balances autonomy and accountability will be most successful.

The Director serves as a representative of the University, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions with other members of the Rice community and with the public. This is a very public, visible position, both inside and outside the University.

- Identify and develop relationships for executive development business in a variety of industries with targeted companies, alumni contacts, and other sources as appropriate.
- Engage with C-level executives to understand the company’s human capital development needs and to provide innovative services that meet those needs.
- Plan, conduct, and follow-up on joint client calls with faculty or other staff to represent Rice Business.
- Actively solicit RFPs and/or respond to. unsolicited RFPs by developing proposals that accurately represent the Business School’s capabilities and meet the needs of the requesting organization. Work with program directors and faculty to develop proposed curriculum for each proposal.
- Communicate effectively and credibly with clients, faculty, and staff on the appropriate design, development, and delivery of programs.
- Responsibility to maintain current information on leads, contacts, proposals, utilizing the CRM system.
- Intellectual capability to identify and share relevant research and trends in the market.
- Ability to project a professional manner with self-assurance, conscientiousness, and confidence in dealing with others.
- Partner with the Executive Director and Sr. Associate Dean and other team members to identify and achieve the organization’s strategic priorities.
- Develop collaborative working relationships with Rice Business internal stakeholders and affiliate faculty members.
