Position Summary

Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy seeks a Database Administrator to develop, maintain and administer the Baker Institute’s Salesforce database of donor and supporter information used by the institute’s events, development and management teams. The administrator will be responsible for training internal users, providing technical support, developing queries, running reports, and monitoring overall data quality. S/he will also work with the university’s CRM system, Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge, to ensure proper integration between systems. Additionally, the administrator will provide general support to the development and events departments as needed.

Bachelor’s degree in data science or a related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience in computer support may be considered in lieu of degree requirement.

- Working knowledge of Salesforce and Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge CRM systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Self-motivated with strong analytical skills and a willingness to learn.

Skills Preferred

- Experience training internal users in Salesforce or Blackbaud.
- Proven ability to implement CRM standard procedures across multiple systems.

Internal / External Contacts

The Database Administrator will work closely with the entire Baker Institute administrative team, database administrators at the university level, as well as external vendors.

Physical Demands

Ability to lift objects up to 20 pounds.

Working Conditions

Standard office environment. Occasional evening work may be required for event staffing.

Description of Job Duty

- Manage proprietary Salesforce databases covering all donors, members, and event participants for the Baker Institute.
- Develop and maintain databases from which to generate informational and analytical reports.
- Organize and maintain prospect research information so that it can be systematically retrieved and utilized upon request.
- Respond to data requests and assist in the collection of data from a variety of sources including donor and event attendee lists.
- Support the collection, management and reporting of key information by documenting and clarifying data flow; organizing, cleaning and cross-checking data, and conducting simple data analyses.
- Suggest and implement ways to streamline and simplify procedures for increased efficiency and accuracy.
