Position Summary

A postdoctoral position in the Bennett lab at Rice University to work on federally funded research projects in synthetic biology. The candidate should be able to work independently an as part of a team, plan and perform experiments, analyze data, and communicate results in reports and scientific publications. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to manage research projects, and quickly learning new techniques are also essential.

Physical Demands

- Active lab work. Ability to transport lab materials around the labs and potentially between buildings.
– Manual dexterity to handle pipetting and other normal lab activities.
– Must be able to climb short ladders and lift boxes up to 25 lbs. Visual acuity to make observations using microscopes.

Working Conditions

- Travel may be among the normal responsibilities if presentations of current projects are required. Work will require a workweek of forty hours during normal staff working hours but this is a lab environment, occasionally works odd hours as experiments dictate.
– Essential functions require storage and handling of hazardous chemicals including known irritants and carcinogens. These will not pose a special hazard provided standard laboratory safety practices are followed.
