Position Description

The Department of Visual and Dramatic Arts at Rice University is seeking to hire a full-time, non-tenure-track artist at the rank of lecturer on a one-year appointment.

The search committee is seeking candidates with a rigorous sculpture practice. The position is responsible for teaching six undergraduate courses- three fall and three spring.

Rice University is a liberal arts research university offering a visual arts curriculum in film production, theatre, and the studio arts (printmaking, painting, drawing, sculpture, and digital as well as traditional photography). The Department of Visual and Dramatic Arts enjoys a talented and intellectually curious group of student majors on three academic tracks, along with progressive academic offerings and collaborations with The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, The Menil Collection, the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston Glassell School of Art (Core Fellow Program), and many alternative art spaces and galleries.

Candidates must have a Master of Fine Arts degree with emphasis in sculpture at the time of appointment, a proven record of exhibition and research, and teaching experience on the undergraduate level. In addition, candidates should have an in-depth understanding of the general history, practice, theory, and criticism of contemporary art.
