Part 1: Messaging Privacy Policy
This Messaging Privacy Policy (“this Policy”) describes how Rice University (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information in connection with our SMS text messaging recruitment program (the “Program”). This Policy applies specifically to mobile phone numbers and related opt-in consent information collected through the Program. This Policy supplements, and does not replace, our general Privacy Policy, which governs our other data collection and processing activities.
Information We Collect
In connection with the Program, we collect the following information:
• Your mobile phone number, provided by you when you opt in to receive text messages from us.
• Your consent status and the date, time, and method of your opt-in (for example, via an online application form, careers site, or reply to a text message).
• Your communication preferences, including your opt-out (STOP) status and any HELP requests.
• Basic message engagement information, such as delivery status, used to operate and troubleshoot the Program.
How We Use This Information
We use the information described above solely to:
• Send you recruitment-related text messages, including job openings, application status updates, interview scheduling, and related communications, as described in the Terms and Conditions below.
• Honor your opt-out and communication preferences.
• Operate, maintain, and improve the Program, including troubleshooting message delivery.
• Comply with applicable laws, carrier requirements, and industry guidelines governing SMS communications.
Sharing of Mobile Information and Opt-In Consent
No Sharing for Marketing Purposes: Mobile information will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
We may share mobile information collected through the Program only with service providers who help us operate the Program (for example, our SMS platform provider), and only as necessary to deliver messages, manage opt-in/opt-out status, and provide related technical support. These service providers are contractually prohibited from using your mobile information for their own marketing purposes or from selling or sharing it with any other third party.
We may also disclose mobile information where required to do so by applicable law, regulation, subpoena, or other valid legal process.
Data Retention
We retain mobile opt-in and consent records for as long as necessary to operate the Program, demonstrate compliance with applicable consent requirements, and fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, after which such information is deleted or de-identified in accordance with Rice University’s data retention practices.
Your Choices
You may opt out of the Program at any time by replying STOP to any message you receive. For assistance, reply HELP or contact us using the information provided in the Terms and Conditions below.

Part 2: SMS Program Terms and Conditions
Program Name
Rice University Recruitment Alerts (the “Program”).
Program Description
By opting in, you agree to receive recurring automated text messages from Rice University related to recruitment and hiring. Messages may include:
• Job openings and alerts matching your interests or application.
• Application status updates and next steps.
• Interview scheduling, reminders, and confirmations.
• Onboarding information for newly hired employees.
• Other recruitment-related communications from Rice University Human Resources.
Message content is limited to the recruitment purposes described above and will not include marketing or promotional content unrelated to your candidacy or employment.
Message Frequency
Message frequency varies and will depend on your application status, available positions, and your interactions with Rice University’s Human Resources team.

Message and data rates may apply.
How to Opt Out
You can cancel the Program at any time. Text STOP to unsubscribe. After you send the message STOP, we will send you a one-time confirmation message acknowledging your opt-out, and you will no longer receive messages from the Program. If you would like to rejoin, you may sign up again through Rice University’s careers site or application process.

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Supported Carriers
Participating carriers include but are not limited to AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, and other major US carriers. T-Mobile is not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Changes to These Terms
Rice University reserves the right to update these Terms and Conditions at any time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated “Last Updated” date. Continued participation in the Program after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
